Meet Captain Jason Yost

Captain Jason Yost is a lifelong resident of southeastern Virginia and a licensed U.S. Coast Guard captain. Growing up on the Chesapeake Bay and its winding tributaries, he developed a passion for light‐tackle angling that later expanded into salt‐water fly fishing. Decades on these waters have given him an intimate understanding of tide cycles, seasonal fish movements, and the subtle cues that turn a good day into a great one.

Beyond the Bay, Jason has logged years chasing pelagics offshore from Virginia Beach to the Outer Banks. Although he loves the blue‐water rush, he’s most at home poling quietly through marsh creeks in search of redfish and speckled trout. His charters focus on sight‐casting with artificial lures or flies, and in midsummer he offers dedicated trips for Virginia’s challenging—but rewarding—tarpon fishery. Expect long days and big payoffs: Jason is happy to stay on the poling platform as long as anglers are eager to hunt.

When he isn’t guiding, Jason serves as a career firefighter for the City of Suffolk—25 years and counting. The discipline, safety mindset, and teamwork that define the fire service carry over to every charter he runs. As retirement approaches, he’s preparing to guide full‐time, transforming a lifelong passion into a second career devoted entirely to sharing Virginia’s inshore treasures with visiting anglers.
